Outreach

Ascension is a community committed to reaching out to those in our surrounding community who have educational needs, require assistance for dailing living, and/or are victims of oppression and injustice.

Among our local outreach ministries are:

Weekly we offer a Holy Eucharist service to the residents of Springvale Terrace, a local assisted living and nursing facility. We also provide pastoral care to residents and their families in times of crisis and death.

We are a member of AIM (Action in Montgomery) which focuses on ministering to those in our community impacted by such issues as affordble housing, pedestrian safety, and youth protection. For information on upcoming AIM events and Ascension's involvement,

We contribute to Shepherd's Table and the Adventist Food Pantry weekly, both local feeding programs, and once a year make meals for a local women's shelter.

We offer ESL classes (English as a Second Language) and also have a tutoring program for youth. On site - we host Unity Learning Center - a before-care and after-care tutoring program for youth. In the summer, this center hosts a summer camp. Please call the parish office for more information on these programs - 301-587-3272.

Community Day (2)

We participate yearly in Capital Pride, as part of a diocesan team,  seeking justice for LGBT brothers and sisters and their families.

Gay Pride with Bishop Chane

Once a year, we hold a "Carnival Day" for the surrounding community which offers many games for children, a white elephant sale, inexpensive clothing, and food.

Community Day (3)

Through the generosity of parishioners, the Rector's Discretionary Fund is able to provide resources to those who need food, medicine, and eviction relief.

These are just some of our local outreach ministries.
