Faith and Worship

Worship is the heart of our life at Ascension. Our work in the world is drawn from our faith in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Prayers

To add your name to the parish prayer list, phone the office or send e-mail to info@ascenss.org.

Prayer

O God, whose Son Jesus is the good shepherd of thy people: Grant that when we hear his voice we may know him who calls us each by name, and follow where he leads, who, with the Holy Spirit, lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Opportunities to Serve

We welcome and encourage your participation in our worship ministries.

Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEMs)

LEMs help the celebrant serve the holy communion during worship services. Some LEMs also take holy communion to church members who are unable to attend services. Becoming a LEM requires training and licensing by the Diocese. LEMs serve for three years and then retire for one year before being eligible to serve again.

Lectors

All parishioners are invited to read the lessons during the Sunday service and on special days.

Acolytes

Children (ages 9 through high school) are eligible to serve as acolytes. Acolytes lead worship processions by carrying the cross, torches, and banner; receive the congregation's gifts of bread and wine and the alms offerings; and ready the altar rail before and communion. Required training to serve as an acolyte is offered each fall.

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild prepares the church for all services. Members are responsible for preparing the altar, sanctuary, vestments, and flowers as well as special vessels for baptisms, confirmations, marriages, burials, and special feast days. Members work in four teams, each being responsible for one week during the month. Training is required.

Ushers

Ushers greet newcomers and help seat those attending. They collect the alms offerings and assist with the flow of members to the altar during the communion.

Worship Committee

This standing committee of the Vestry works with the rector to plan the regular and special services for the seasons of the church year.
