Spiritual Life

 spring at Ascension

Ascension is committed to spiritual formation which is to empower people to develop their spiritual inner selves as well as discern and discover their spiritual gifts.

Through spiritual formation, we strive to address that hunger that each of us has to draw closer to God and to others through prayer, dialogue, and honest self-examination.

At present - there are several opportunities, in addition to the other ministries of Ascension, to focus on spiritual formation.

Bible Study is offered weeklyl on Sundays between worship services from 9:10am - 9:50am. Participants choose which passage of scripture from the Sunday lectionary to focus on and discuss.

A Spiritual Journey group is offered the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of every from from 6:30 -8:00pm (location: Ascension House.) This group discusses a wide range of spiritual issues affecting one's daily life.

Seasonal programs offere throughout the year also provide opportunities for spiritual growth such as our Advent series, Lenten series, and summer program offering.

Resident is Terri Murphy, our Director of Religious Education, who is a Shalem Institute trained spiritual director. Terri is often available by appointment for individual spiritual direction.

Resident is also our Rector, The Rev. Dr. Joan Beilstein, also a seasoned spiritual director who is available by appointment for spiritual guidance.

If you have questions regarding spiritual formation, please contact either Terri or the Rector at 301-587-3272 or (Terri - rainingshamrocks@aol.com); (Joan- revjeb@comcast.net.)
