AIM

From Dick Marks,
AIM Liaison for Ascension

For many years, Ascension has been an active member of Action in Montgomery (AIM), a countywide group of churches dedicated to building a base of power so citizens can influence the institutions that affect their lives. Please put on your calendars three important AIM events coming up over the next 4 weeks:

Wednesday, February 24, 7:30 pm: AIM Countywide Action with County Executive Ike Leggett at St. Martin of Tours, Gaithersburg ("head count" event-we need you!). Given pressure being applied by activist groups to cut County aid programs and use County law enforcement agencies in immigration enforcement, AIM plans to show Mr. Leggett that we support him in keeping our County a welcoming place for immigrants. Please let Bill Schauman or Dick Marks know if you can come and if you need transportation.

Thursday, March 11, 7:30 pm: AIM Countywide Action with Chris Van Hollen at Bethel World Outreach Church, Silver Spring ("head count" event-we need you!). Rep. Van Hollen faces conflicting pressures between downplaying the immigration issue (as Democratic Campaign Committee chief) and supporting reform (representing his District). AIM plans to encourage him to support immigration reform that respects the rights of all.

Please let Bill Schauman or Dick Marks know if you can come and if you need transportation.
